What does heart coherence do?
Rhythmic variations in a heartrate is a coherent heartrate. When you are in a state of coherence your hormone-, nervous- and immune system tune up to this harmonious rhythm of your heart, so you are ‘in the flow’ or ‘in the zone’. When you’re in the flow you will find that you have more energy, you feel happier and brighter, you can think more clearly and creatively- also during stressful situations. This is because blood flow to your neo cortex (your ‘thinking brain’) is increased and cortisol levels decrease while production of hormone DHEA increases.
The picture below shows the heartrate of someone just sitting on a chair, although this person is at this moment not exposed to stress the heartrate is clearly chaotic. You can say to someone that he/she should think more positively, feeling more positively or behave differently. But very little chance this mere verbal advise will help at all- it is nothing more than an idea, a thought. So if you’re thinking ‘I will cope better with stress’ it mostly remains just a thought.
